Make room for "LIFE"

September seems to ask us a straightforward question: how much of your energy is going into living your life, and how much is going into putting up with things? After August's major Solar and Lunar eclipses, there will be plenty to absorb, but there comes a point when going over the same ground stops helping, so what would make a difference? There is encouragement as Jupiter and Saturn are being supportive as we enter the month, Jupiter in Leo brings warmth and the desire to enjoy being alive, while Saturn in Aries asks us to take responsibility for making that possible, together they favour something we can actually build, perhaps it is a creative project, a commitment to ourselves or a first step towards a life that fits us better, please note, confidence often grows after we begin, not before.

How much of your energy is going into living your life, and how much is going into putting up with things?

Uranus, the harbinger of great change, stations retrograde on 10 September in Gemini, here the Uranian restlessness works through the mind, this includes the information we absorb and the old stories we tell ourselves just to get through the day. It is quite possible that you will find that an old explanation simply no longer satisfies you and even though nothing much has changed on the outside, you will start to see things differently and that is often where change begins. This dynamic planet is all about, disruption, innovation and individuality and it will seem to stand still in the sky all month, this very fact will intensify its energy, and you could feel a tension building inside you particularly if something isn’t quite right. Discernment as I have mentioned before matters, particularly when so much of the world these days reaches us through our screens, it is important to remember that the worst of human behaviour is generally fed to us in this way along with constant opinions and manufactured outrage, this is not the whole story.  It is important to recognise what is harmful and how it could be affecting us in subtle ways because it could influence how we behave with each other and as we know humans are complicated creatures, capable of being bloody awful to one another certainly, but we are also capable of tenderness, curiosity, humour, courage and extraordinary acts of care.

The Virgo New Moon on the 11th brings an analytical bent into our daily life, it can indicate where a small sensible change will be better than another week of worrying. This moons energy will give us the impetus we need to bring order to chaos. This is a time to think things through and get organised, so look at the routines, clutter and obligations that leave you with very little energy for anything else, some things obviously will deserve understanding and care, but others are simply like the garden rubbish and need to go to the dump, some thoughts do not need to come back for you to analyse them again and again, clear them out and see how much lighter you feel.

Around the same time Venus moves from Libra into Scorpio which brings with it a passionate intensity that could easily create power struggles as it is being pushed by Pluto or, it could bring compulsive behaviour that could cause difficulties in relationships or even with your finances. Old wounds might be activated as she will also form an opposition to Chiron and this will eventually deepen your understanding about what past hurts need to be let go of. Venus in Scorpio is not interested in polite affection or relationships that merely look good from the outside; she wants intimacy, loyalty and emotional truth, which means that anything superficial may begin to feel rather unsatisfying. Feelings could become stronger, desire could become more intense, and or we may become acutely aware of whom we trust, what we value and whether the emotional exchange in a relationship is genuinely equal. A relationship can carry on for years without anyone admitting what is missing but with Venus approaching her retrograde, these questions need time and unfortunately September going into October may make them harder to ignore, your body, your desires and your need for real affection belong in this conversation too. I am going to do a deep dive into the phase that Venus is highlighting over the next few weeks.

Mercury is moving through Libra helps us find the words we need, while the equinox on 23 September brings balance into focus and it will show the value in listening, negotiating and seeing another person's point of view in a way that we do not have to disappear in the process. If keeping the peace always means swallowing what you feel, then something needs to change, an honest conversation may be uncomfortable but still be the kindest thing available. That honesty can touch an old sore place, especially as Chiron returns to Aries on 17 September and questions about who we are, whether we matter and whether we dare stand up for ourselves may feel painfully familiar. Perhaps this is the time for each of us to recognise the patterns we need to break and to ask for what we need or stop apologising for having needs at all as that counts as healing too.

The Aries Full Moon on 26 September will be close to Neptune which will make your feelings much more sensitive and difficult to untangle, this moon brings the question of self versus relationship into the open, an Aries moon says, “This is who I am and this is what I need,” while the Sun opposite in Libra is concerned with compromise, fairness and the effect our choices have upon other people. It can show us where we have been keeping the peace at too high a personal cost, suppressing our anger, waiting for permission and or allowing another person’s needs to become more important than our own. This does not automatically indicate arguments, endings or selfish behaviour, it may simply show that a relationship, commitment or established arrangement needs adjusting so that both people can exist within the whole more honestly. It will be important to hesitate before deciding anything definite because something can be felt deeply felt without every conclusion being correct. The message here I think is not to ignore what you feel, but to allow the emotional fog to clear before making an irreversible decision.

Then Mars enters Leo on the 27th, and it will feel as though a bell is ringing with a more outward, expressive of energy after its shielding passage through Cancer, so what has been held back may want to be spoken, made clear or shown. There is room for courage here, and also a bit of enjoyment, provided we do not turn every feeling into a drama. They do say that the definition of a Drama Queen is that they express what others are uncomfortable hearing, they feel deeply and show it and they don’t quietly tolerate things, so be careful.

For me, the heart of September is that we need to be clear about what we will no longer tolerate and at the same time remain interested in life, still laugh, still care and still surprise ourselves. So clear out what is over taking up valuable space or just finished, give some attention to what is good, and do something with the energy you get back, because there is more to being human than just getting through the day.
