Venus turned retrograde in Scorpio on 3 October, she returns to Libra on 25 October and turns direct on 14 November and re-enters Scorpio on 4 December where she remains until 7 January.

Venus retrograde marks a period of renewal and reorientation in our feelings, relationships and values. It can bring us into conflict with the past, particularly with inherited ideas about love, loyalty, duty and what a good relationship is supposed to look like. This is not about dismissing the past, but about looking honestly at what still feels right for us and what no longer fits the people we have become. In Scorpio, this is not a gentle review, Scorpio takes Venus deep beneath the surface into the emotional underworld, where feelings are rarely tidy and nothing important can remain superficial for very long.

Some of what arises may belong to this extraordinary year, but the emotional threads could lead much further back. The last time Venus was retrograde in Scorpio and Libra was eight years ago, so it may be worth reflecting on the autumn of 2018 and even 2010. Who was in your life, and what were you learning about love, trust, money, boundaries or self-worth? They may reflect the current story and let you see the patterns in your relationships.

The deeper territory of Scorpio and Venus

Scorpio is closely associated with the eighth house, where we encounter some of life’s most intimate and complex territory, including sex, death, grief, inheritance, shared money, emotional debts, secrets and psychological inheritance. These kinds of matters cannot always be resolved through politeness or positive thinking. Scorpio understands that situations eventually need to be faced honestly and that something may need to be grieved or released before we can understand what the experience has taught us, why we held on and what must now change.

Venus represents love, pleasure, beauty, money, self-worth and what we value, when she turns retrograde in Scorpio, she asks us to look beneath the visible relationship and examine its emotional foundations. What holds it together? Is it love, trust and genuine commitment, or guilt, habit, fear, financial dependence, obligation or the belief that we have already invested too much to leave? Scorpio is a fixed sign, so people may hold tightly to what is known even when it no longer feels healthy. This can create an intense inner conflict between preserving the relationship and preserving yourself. Secrets or previously hidden information may emerge, personally and in the world collectively, but revelation is not always about dramatic disclosure. Sometimes the secret is something we have concealed from ourselves: that we are unhappy, that our feelings have changed or that a relationship no longer reflects the person we have become.

There is an interesting spiritual insight within the deeper parts of this retrograde. Venus begins her descent in a Mars-ruled part of Scorpio and turns direct in a Jupiter-ruled part of Libra. In other words, we begin in the more uncomfortable territory of anger, desire and survival, but the journey should eventually help us understand what has happened and why as well as finding a wiser, fairer way forward. The descent into Scorpio matters because it offers an opportunity to recover the part of ourselves we may have left behind in order to preserve a relationship, survive a loss or fulfil a duty.

When the present awakens the past

The opening days of October may feel emotionally charged because Venus turns retrograde as Mars in Leo opposes Pluto in Aquarius. Mars and Pluto are the rulers of Scorpio, so within relationships, this may expose the real dynamics: who usually gets their own way, who continually gives way and whether silence, affection, money or approval have become ways of maintaining control. Mars in Leo can turn wounded pride into unnecessary drama, so pause before reacting and consider whether the situation requires confrontation or simply an honest conversation.

There is an old therapeutic expression: hysterical usually equals historical.

It does not mean that a present feeling is foolish or unreal; It means that when our reaction seems much larger than the immediate event, something happening now may have touched an older wound. The person in front of us may not have created the whole feeling, they may simply have opened the door through which its history entered. Don’t forget that Chiron is also working quietly in the background, having returned to Aries for one final examination of wounds around identity, rejection and the right to want what we want. Trust the feelings that arise, even the awkward ones. Anger, grief, jealousy, resentment or fear are not necessarily instructions to act, but they are information, a clue to where your attention needs to go.

Finding the words

Around 6 October, Mercury meets retrograde Venus in Scorpio. A conversation, message, memory or realisation may give words to what Venus has begun reviewing, its possible that something felt but unnamed may become speakable. Think before you speak, but do not silence yourself but with Mars and Pluto in the background, allow the first emotional reaction to settle, breath and then say what is true as clearly, wisely and calmly as you can.

Mercury then turns retrograde in Scorpio on 24 October and remains retrograde until 13 November. For most of that time Venus will be back in Libra, so the mind continues examining things, what was hidden and what was never properly discussed, while the heart begins deciding what a fairer arrangement might look like. Every relationship has an agreement, whether or not it has ever been spoken aloud, it’s about who gives, who decides, who carries the emotional responsibility and who keeps the peace. These retrogrades ask us to renegotiate the old relationship contract, creating more room, reciprocity and individuality where honesty can deepen the bond, while recognising that intensity is not compatibility and that sometimes it is the old version of the relationship, rather than the relationship itself, that must end.

The final Scorpio Venus Star Point

On 24 October the same day as Mercury turns retro Venus reaches the heart of the Sun in Scorpio, this is known as the cazimi or Venus Star Point, and it symbolises the death and rebirth of Venus. As the Sun and Venus kiss a seed is planted, we may not yet know what it will become because new values often begin as feelings before they become decisions. This is the mystical heart of the journey, when Venus enters the darkness to retrieve the life, light, desire and emotional truth that were buried there.

This is the final Scorpio Venus Star Point of our lifetime and the completion of a chapter that has lasted for approximately a century and will not return for around another 150 years. Everyone alive today has lived within this longer Scorpio story. Its final Star Point therefore marks a significant crossroads around love, intimacy, power, sexuality, money, loss and the agreements that bind people together. We might experience it as a change of heart, a private certainty or the sudden knowledge that we can no longer carry something that once seemed inseparable from love.

Returning through Libra

Venus returns to Libra on 25 October. After Scorpio has exposed what lies underneath our relationships, Libra considers how those relationships are arranged. Scorpio reveals what is true, Libra decides what is fair.

Is there reciprocity? Are both people allowed to exist fully in the relationship? Is peace created through honesty and mutual consideration, or maintained by one person continually accommodating the other? Libra wants harmony, but its shadow can be peace at any price. True balance means that both people matter, responsibility is shared and nobody must continually abandon themselves to keep a relationship intact. This is the period that will show you which relationships can be renewed through honesty, which require different boundaries and which have completed their purpose. You may yet realise that understanding somebody’s behaviour does not oblige you to continue accepting it.

The turning point in November

Both Mercury and Venus begin moving forward practically together on 13 and 14 November and this brings the real possibility of greater emotional clarity. Some relationships may improve because the truth has finally been spoken, others may not. It would be wise to acknowledge that an ending is not always evidence that love was absent, sometimes love has done everything it came to do.

Living the answer

The formal retrograde ends in November, but Venus continues retracing and assessing this ground until she returns to Scorpio on 4 December with her new understanding, and this is where deep reflection becomes choice. What was uncovered can now be lived through in the way we use our time, care for our bodies, handle money, conduct relationships and allow ourselves pleasure. Some relationships may become deeper and more honest, while others may be released. By the end of this journey, we may not know exactly what every relationship will become, but we should know ourselves better. We should understand more clearly what we value, what we can offer, what we need in return and more especially, what we are no longer prepared to carry. B e aware that this is going to be a pretty intense period where speaking the truth and being truthful should be considered essential.

People enter our lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime. A reason may become clear once its lesson has been understood. A season may end because both people have changed. A lifetime bond may need to evolve if it is to remain alive.
